Hi, how does everyone feel about carb counting? Personally, I don't mind it as I use the Aviva expert meter which calculates how much insulin you should take after you insert the number of carbs you are eating. Over the years I have become very good at estimating the number of carbs in food but If I'm eating food which doesn't come in a packet with a label and the exact number of carbs in the food, I would use my carbs and cals app/book. Since the day of my diagnosis I have been using this app/book to help me understand how many carbs are in certain foods. I would highly recommend it. I find my Aviva expert meter very helpful as I have different ratios for each meal and some can be difficult to calculate. In the morning, my ratio is 1 unit to 5g carbs, at lunch its 1 unit to 12g carbs, dinner is 1 unit to 10g carbs and supper is the same as dinner. So although I can calculate it mentally if needed, without this meter I would be quite lost. I'm sure some of you will have heard of the carbs and cals app/book, but if not I'd recommend it for everyone but especially beginners or anyone who is recently diagnosed. I will leave a link for the carbs and cals book but there is also an app that I think is available for ios and android (not 100% sure).
