Hi, how does everyone feel about carb counting? Personally, I don't mind it as I use the Aviva expert meter which calculates how much insulin you should take after you insert the number of carbs you are eating. Over the years I have become very good at estimating the number of carbs in food but If I'm eating food which doesn't come in a packet with a label and the exact number of carbs in the food, I would use my carbs and cals app/book. Since the day of my diagnosis I have been using this app/book to help me understand how many carbs are in certain foods. I would highly recommend it. I find my Aviva expert meter very helpful as I have different ratios for each meal and some can be difficult to calculate. In the morning, my ratio is 1 unit to 5g carbs, at lunch its 1 unit to 12g carbs, dinner is 1 unit to 10g carbs and supper is the same as dinner. So although I can calculate it mentally if needed, without this meter I would be quite lost. I'm sure some of you will have heard of the carbs and cals app/book, but if not I'd recommend it for everyone but especially beginners or anyone who is recently diagnosed. I will leave a link for the carbs and cals book but there is also an app that I think is available for ios and android (not 100% sure). Thank you, Kirsty x carbs and cals book link: www.carbsandcals.com/books/carb-calorie-counter

Hi there, as I am still in school, I have exams coming up in under 2 weeks so this probably isn't the best time to start this blog, but I've never been to great with focusing on one thing at a time anyway. So, my life is going well right now (minus the exams) and I have a clinic appointment in 2 days! My blood sugars have been reasonably good with the exception of a few unwanted hypos. Although exam stress does mess with my blood sugars, I'm hoping for the best. I don't know about any of you, but when I'm stressed my sugars go high and when I'm excited they go low, can anyone relate? I know that some of you reading this post will haver had diabetes for a lot longer than me (6 years) and some of you may have just been diagnosed, but Id like to hear about your experiences or any questions you may be wondering about fellow diabetics. This is my first blog post, so if anyone is actually reading this then please comment any suggestions of topics you'd like me to discuss and I will when I have the time. and remember you can contact me through email if you want and I will gladly chat about any worries. I will discuss some of the troubles that I have been through when coping with my diabetes in further blogs, but ill leave it with this at the moment.
Thanks for reading, Kirsty x |
